Know What Your Legislator Says Before the Election
We asked. They answered -- the responses to focused questions on Physician Collective Negotiation and Med-Mal Reform issues are posted on the Suffolk County Medical Society website. As you know, ALL these legislators seats are vulnerable in this year's election. Interestingly, although the survey was circulated to all the current legislators AND their opponents, there were NO responses from any opponent candidates. Thought you would appreciate the ability to review where our NYS legislators stand on issues important to Medicine before the election next week.

This, from MSSNY Councilor, Frank Dowling, M.D.:
ReplyDeleteI summarized the responses to the legislative survey (attached).
As can be seen, we have 3 Dem's in the Assembly (4 if Ginny Fields pulls upset as incumbent with 3rd party nomination) who are willing to cosponsor one or both of the liability reform bills in the current form/wording.
8/11 Assemblymembers are willing to cosponsor collective bargaining in it's current form/wording.
One key leader in the Senate (Johnson) is willing to co-sponsor collective bargaining in it's current form/wording,Senator Flanagan supports the concept and would push legislation. In addtion, Lee Zeldin, who is poised to win Senator Foley's seat, assured us that he'd support collective bargaining and work actively with SCMS on the issue if he wins the election. With Senator Skelos promising Suffolk County Medical Society that the bill will come to the floor and pass next year if he becomes the Majority Leader, we should have a great chance on collective bargaining. And maybe a chance for some movement on one of the liability reform bills.
